The Night

Don’t expect to come out on top if you pick a date during football season or one that coincides with work the next day. Friday evening is usually the best pick, allowing everyone to wind down after a day of hard work and it also means you can continue well on into the night without the irritating thought of work the next day picking away at your mind. No hurdles, just one hundred percent entertainment and focus.

The People

This isn’t a frat party but you need more than a couple of friends by your side if you want this to be even a remotely interesting game. Having four to eight people at a poker table would be ideal and you can even have extra players on standby in case some of the guys opt out, go broke etc. If there’s too many on hand, you can always set up two poker tables.

The Essentials

Poker isn’t a hassling game, all you need is at least two decks of cards for each table. But don’t forget that the quintessential part of a poker night is the food and drink. You’ll need plenty of booze and snacks to get the guys through the night but don’t forget about napkins too- and no, this isn’t just about cleanliness, those sticky fingers might leave behind marks on certain cards and give players quite the unfair advantage.

The Game

Since repetitive games don’t always bode well, make sure to switch things up. There are plenty of poker games to choose from, including Five-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud, Let It Ride, and Texas Hold ‘Em. Poker Bombshells is the best way to play poker if you’re looking to give the boys a little tease along the way- a guaranteed party favourite, that’s for sure. Make sure to switch up your dealers with each game so everyone gets a chance and also set cash limits- there’s always that one guy who isn’t as financially well off.

Etiquette

You could say poker is a gentleman’s game. There a certain way to behave so don’t embarrass yourself and advanced players across the world by not following it. It’s a general rule that you shouldn’t leave the table if you’re winning. You need to give the other players a chance to win back their money, while it might not sound like the most financially sound decision. So as much as you’ll want to stop while you’re ahead and count your pennies, stay on and play the game. This is matter of common courtesy.

These are the very basics to hosting poker nights with the boys. It may not be rocket science but it will definitely make you the best host of the lot.
